Olivia Dunne celebrated her adventurous boyfriend Paul Skenes’ All-Star nomination.
The Pirates rookie sensation earned his first trip to next week’s MLB All-Star Game in Arlington, Texas, and Dunne marked the occasion for Skenes after the news broke.
In multiple social media posts, Dunne first celebrated the news by sharing the MLB post about Skenes’ selection for the Midsummer Classic with the caption “he’s an ALL STAR!”
In a second Instagram story, Dunne showed balloons with the letters “ALL STAR” as well as pizza and champagne.
In a TikTok video, Dunne — dressed in a long black dress — gave a behind-the-scenes look at how she surprised Skenes with the balloons and pizza after he returned from Sunday’s 3-2 loss to the Mets.
The video begins with Dunne showing off the balloons and then cuts to her dancing around the room celebrating the news about Skenes.
Finally, the moment is shown where the LSU product arrives at the apartment and smiles when he sees the treats Dunne has collected, while she jumps up and down.
The video was captioned, “Surprising my boyfriend after finding out he’s an MLB All Star.”
Skenes made MLB history when he was nominated for the All-Star Game, becoming the first player to be selected first overall in the draft and then make it to the All-Star Game the following season.
“You definitely can’t expect it,” Skenes said, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. “I think it’s just a product of being there and doing the work that’s required, that kind of thing. The expectation was definitely to win the national championship when we got there. That’s all we wanted to do.
“But as far as getting drafted first, getting drafted when I was drafted and now the All-Star game, there were no expectations on me. It’s just about doing as much as I can and letting other people make the decision for me. And so a lot has happened over the course of a year. It wasn’t necessarily a whirlwind or anything, but looking back, it’s happened fast.”
