60 to 70 minors arrested after ‘large-scale disturbance’ at Carson mall, LASD says

CARSON, Calif. (KABC) — Dozens of minors were arrested Saturday after a trash can was set on fire and fireworks were set off at a shopping center in Carson, the sheriff said.

Officers responded to the SouthBay Pavilion Mall on Avalon Boulevard around 2:30 p.m. after receiving reports of a “large-scale disturbance” involving approximately 200 juveniles.

According to the Carson Sheriff’s Station, someone set fire to a trash can and set off illegal fireworks at a store. Between 60 and 70 minors were arrested for refusing to leave, investigators said.

“Officers have detained multiple minors who have been issued citations in connection with the incident and will appear in court in the future,” reads a post from the Carson Sheriff’s Station on X.

Video footage from the crime scene showed a line of minors in the parking lot, several of whom were handcuffed.

According to the sheriff, no arrests have been made.

The young people who were detained have now been returned to their parents/guardians.

“Criminal activity of this nature disrupts our businesses and is harmful to our community and will not be tolerated,” the post on X continued. “We would like to thank the members of our community who immediately contacted law enforcement and for the cooperation and support provided by customers and our law enforcement partners.”

According to investigators, there was no theft or injuries.
